Julie Corpuz

PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR | email Julie

I am passionate about creating an environment that is God-centered, fun, safe, and a loving place to build lasting friendships among children, parents, teachers and the church community. I find joy when I talk to children and learn about their daily discoveries. I believe in nurturing creativity, showing kindness towards each other and appreciating the world that God created for His children.

I have 20 years of experience as a preschool educator and leader in early childhood education in Burlingame. Prior to finding my calling as an educator, I worked at SaRonix and Levi Strauss as a Technologist. I hold a Master’s in Business Administration from Golden Gate University. I joined the burlpres team in 2021. I look forward to traveling more with my husband, Vill, and my three young adult children to other countries and cities within the United States. I enjoy visiting museums, creating watercolor paintings, watching plays and playing the piano. I play tennis and take walks by the beach to recharge.

I have been fortunate and blessed to be teaching in an amazing school that has a nurturing, loving environment where children can learn and experience new challenges that will help build their confidence while they play. I have a passion for Science and I enjoy incorporating experiments with the children. This year, I am teaching the MWF in the three year old class.

  • Caroline Trevithick

TEACHER ASSISTANT - Panda Bears and Extended day (MWF)

I started at this school as a teacher’s assistant in March of 2022 for the 2-year old class. Currently, I work with the Chipmunks, Pandas and the Extended day kids.

I’ve been part of burlpres since I was a baby, and have participated in many of the youth programs and church events since then. I also helped out with, and then taught, the pre-k children at Sunday school for a few years before ending in 2020. I’ve been babysitting for years as well, and still do for different families within the church.

I love working with kids, and it’s always a joy to both help out and learn from them myself! I hope to be able to have a positive lifelong impact on these children as they learn and grow in life and in Christ as independent, caring, and respectful human beings.

I’m currently in college, and am aiming to major in creative writing with an English emphasis. In my free time, I enjoy fashion, listening to music, and writing.

  • Miran Kim

    TEACHER ASSISTANT - Lions (MWF)

I have been working as an assistant teacher for the Pre-K classes at burlpres. I am a mother of three now adult children and have been working with my husband in our family business for over 25 years. I was always passionate about becoming an educator, so many years after graduating from college I went back to complete the requirements for my preschool teaching certification. These past five years, I have had the pleasure of supporting our Pre-K teachers and students in-person and throughout the pandemic. As a strong believer of cultivating children's creativity and interest in education early on, I am motivated to help my students become successful individuals and life-long learners. I look forward to working collaboratively with my colleagues, the parents and guardians of our school, and our wonderful children. I can't wait for this next school year to begin!

  • Vita Makarenko

TEACHER ASSISTANT - Panda Bears (TTH)

This is my fourth year at First Presbyterian Church Preschool as a Teacher Assistant. I will be working in the Panda Bear's Class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My passion for working with children started when I volunteered at my son’s preschool, and then decided to get the ECE units at College of San Mateo.

What I like most about working with children is being able to see the growth and progress in children when given the support that’s needed for them to thrive. I especially love doing art and sensory activities and can’t wait to share them with our Panda Bears.  My hobbies include walking, unwinding at the beach, and cooking.

  • Sonu Sharma

    SUPPORTING STAFF

Sonu is passionate about helping people any way she can, all the time. Because of this, her service touches nearly all of our burlpres ministries in some way. Her life revolves around the church and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She has worked at burlpres since 2005, is married to our wonderful custodian, Onkar, and both of her children grew up in burlpres community. She enjoys cooking, both as part of her work at church, as well as exploring or creating new recipes at home. She also enjoys the outdoors, especially biking and hiking.

  • Onkar Sharma

    SUPPORTING STAFF

Onkar believes in spreading happiness to everyone he meets, and he’s met just about everyone in the burlpres community over the years since he started working here in 1998. Onkar is married to our wonderful facilities coordinator, Sonu, and for their family burlpres feels like a second home. Onkar loves fixing things and actively looks for anything at the church and at home that could use his magic touch. He also enjoys watching football and you can often find him in the garage working on cars (he loves fixing them too!).
